What is A1c? Why screen eyes, kidneys and nerves? How to cope with hypoglycaemia? How to combine diabetes and exercise? You will find the answers in this section.

Good Blood Sugar Control

A1c reflects an average blood sugar level over the past twelve weeks. A low A1c level shows that blood sugars have been consistently well controlled and will prevent the development of long term complications in the eyes, kidneys and nerves.

Screening for Eye, Kidney & Nerve Complications

Over the years, diabetes can damage the kidneys, eyes and nerves. If the symptoms are found and treated early, further damage can be prevented. This is why regular testing is so important.

Coping with Hypoglycaemia (Low Blood Sugar)

The most common reasons for low blood sugar are less food or more physical activity than usual. It is important to start treatment as quickly as possible - remember to carry your diabetes identification tag or card and some tablets or juice at all times.

Diabetes & Exercise

A person with diabetes must work out his or her own diabetes care routines, test the blood sugar before, during and after exercise and make sure to eat the right food and to adjust the insulin injection and dose.
